Abstract

Advanced materials play a crucial role in driving innovation across engineering disciplines, enabling enhanced performance, durability, and sustainability in applications ranging from aerospace to biomedical systems. This review examines recent developments (2015–2025) in advanced materials, including nanomaterials, composites, smart materials, biomaterials, and additive manufacturing materials. Through a systematic literature review, key trends, benefits, technological drivers, and application domains are identified. Findings show that advanced materials are increasingly integrated into engineering systems to achieve high strength-to-weight ratios, adaptive responses to environmental stimuli, improved energy efficiency, and biocompatibility. Challenges such as scalability, material characterization limitations, and lifecycle sustainability are discussed. The review concludes with directions for future research emphasizing multi-functional materials, eco-friendly fabrication, and
