Abstract

The chemical engineering industry plays a vital role in global economic growth but is also a major contributor to energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and environmental pollution. Traditional chemical processes are often resource-intensive, energy-inefficient, and environmentally harmful. In response to these challenges, the concept of process intensification (PI) has emerged as a transformative approach aimed at improving process efficiency, reducing equipment size, minimizing waste generation, and enhancing sustainability. This research paper presents a comprehensive analysis of process intensification strategies and their role in sustainable chemical engineering for green industrial development. The study explores intensified reactors, advanced separation technologies, microreactors, and green solvents, along with digital tools and process optimization techniques. Challenges, limitations, and future research directions are critically discussed. The findings highlight that process intensification is a key enabler of sustainable and environmentally responsible chemical manufacturing.
